New Road Reopens After Extended Closure
12 February 2026
New Road, closed since late 2025 to allow for gas mains diversion and drainage works associated with the Hampden Fields development, has reopened to traffic after an extended closure.
The gas mains diversion was completed on 26 January 2026, with all foul sewer and surface water drainage works also finished. The remaining task was the reconstruction of approximately 300 metres of the existing carriageway, along with culvert installation and the creation of two new junction connections to the development's diversion route.
An initial target of reopening on 1 February could not be met. Weston Turville Parish Council confirmed that 'unforeseen circumstances and prolonged periods of adverse weather' had caused the delay, with the contractor targeting completion by 11 February instead.
'The continued closure is necessary to allow the works to be completed safely,' the council said in a statement. 'We apologise for the inconvenience caused and thank residents and road users for their continued patience.'
The road now follows a new route, with the former stretch replaced by a link road that sits slightly elevated due to drainage and safety requirements. Culverts have been installed in place of bridges. Access to the golf course has also been adjusted as part of the works.
Residents who had specific access requirements during the closure were invited to contact project manager Jake Treliving directly.
