Parish Council Goes Solar: Village Hall Gets Panels and Battery Storage
10 March 2026
Weston Turville Parish Council has installed solar panels with battery storage at the Village Hall, one of a series of measures taken to reduce the building's environmental impact and energy costs.
The solar installation is part of a broader package of improvements that also includes LED upgrades to streetlights and the village hall itself, a NEST smart thermostat for heating control, low-flush toilets, motion-activated lighting, and sensor taps in hall facilities.
The council has also switched to a financial institution that avoids fossil fuel investments, and moved its meeting papers from printed documents to iPads — a change it estimates saves approximately 420kg of carbon emissions per year.
Looking ahead, the council has plans to install electric vehicle charging points in the village hall car park, and is continuing to lobby Buckinghamshire Council for improved cycle routes connecting the village to Aylesbury, Wendover, and neighbouring parishes.
A Community Climate Action Plan is also being developed in partnership with CAWT (Climate Action Weston Turville) and neighbouring parish councils.
'We want Weston Turville to be a village that takes its environmental responsibilities seriously,' the council has said. 'These are practical steps we can take now, while we work on the bigger picture.'
Residents who want to get involved in climate action work in the village can contact the Parish Council for more information.
